By doing so, the bank will be joining African Governments and other institutions such as African Development Bank, USAID, OCP, and Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation in making investment commitments to boost the agriculture sector.

Under the theme ‘Seize the Moment: Africa Rising through Agricultural Transformation’, the one week event will be hosted by President Uhuru Kenyatta at UN Headquarters, Nairobi.

The forum is designed to advance policies and secure the investments that will ensure a better life for millions of Africa’s smallholder’s farmers and families who account for 70 percent of the population.

Organisers estimate an attendance of 1,500 delegates including African Heads of State, top CEOs, heads of development agencies and farmers organizations among others.

“Financial institutions are key in mobilising private financing necessary for a sustainable agriculture transformation,” Dr Agnes Kalibata, President of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) said while receiving the check on behalf of AGRF.

The move follows an engagement which saw KCB and come into a Sh32.2 million (US$319,000) partnership whose aim was to prove the concept of mobile based agriculture financial solutions through MobiGro.

“Nonetheless, this is just the beginning, more needs to be done as we encourage other players in the banking sector to play their part in ensuring agriculture standards in the country and region grow. KCB Group will continue to spearhead these developments to ensure agriculture as a sector thrives,” said Anastacia Kimtai, KCB Retail Director.
