Mbeya — The government has been advised to maintain good relationship with the private sector so as to strengthen the agricultural sector in order to achieve a revolution in industrial economy, it has been learnt.
Southern Agricultural Growth Corridor of Tanzania (SAGCOT) Executive Director Mr Geoffrey Kirenga said this during an official meeting with Mbeya Regional Commissioner (RC) Mr Amos Makala, district Commissioners, District Executive Directors, agricultural companies and regional heads of department this week.
He said that in order to have a strong industrial economy, it is a must to strengthen the agricultural sector which he said will be the source for industrial raw materials and this could be achieved by improving the relationship between private and public sectors while maintaining improved agricultural practices.
"Southern Highland regions have good weather and fertile soil which are vital for agriculture, but despite the two important factors residents have failed to increase their produce due to sticking to poor farming methods", he said.
For his part, RC Makalla took time to urge District Commissioners to work hard in ensuring friendly environment for the investors and the same time motivating farmers to increase production.
"You must work very hard and support our farmers in order to make sure that our region continues to supply food to other regions which have low production", he told the District Commissioners.
He said that the region was once doing very well in exporting fruits, vegetables and flowers to different countries, but it stopped due to various reasons. He added that joint efforts were needed to bring the situation back.
He took time to welcome investors in the region saying that the region has of investment attractions, and a friendly environment for investment one being presence of Songwe International Airport which has the capacity for handling big airplane, which are supposed to be used to increase production.
