Tunis/Tunisia — Grain production should reach 8 to 8.5 million quintals in the current campaign, from 7 million quintals last season, up 10 to 13%, executive board member of the Tunisian Union of Agriculture and Fisheries (UTAP) responsible for field crops Mohamed Rjaibia told TAP.
The harvest is seeing a progress rate of 40%, he added, on the sidelines of the meeting of the expanded executive board of the union held Saturday and Sunday in Hammamet (Governorate of Nabeul), dismissing the possibility of encountering storage problems since it is "a modest harvest compared to the record 24 million quintals recorded in the 2018-2019 campaign.
He said Tunisia will need to import nearly 32 million quintals of grain, or 70% of its needs in grain and 90% of its needs in soft wheat.
