Much anticipated Mombasa Annual Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) show is expected to start from November 2 to November 6. For the past two years the event has not been held due to the pandemic.
Over a 100 exhibitors are expected to grace the five day event which kicks off Wednesday.
According to the Mombasa ASK Chairperson Anisa Abdallah, many exhibitors from upcountry and within the coast region have begun camping at the showground ahead of the event.
Abdallah said that there will also be special training for people interested in agribusiness urging youths to turn out in large numbers so that they get equipped with the skills.
“We are ready to receive visitors for this year’s event. Here exhibitors will showcase different products, we also have a cultural section where all the tribes from Kenya will be showcasing their tradition,” added Abdallah.
In an interview with KNA, Abdallah said so far 130 have already pitched tents at the venue and more are expected to flock in since the Kitale show ended on Sunday.
In addition with the biting drought that has engulfed most places of Kenya, the chairlady noted that they will offer training on small scale irrigation where farms in Chakama will be used as a case study to show farmers how they can irrigate small pieces of land with little water required.
She added that there are places set specifically for demonstration to the farmers on the types of crops that are drought resistant.
“We have a lot to offer in this upcoming event, don’t be left out,” she said.
Abdallah called upon locals to set the record by turning out in large numbers so as to promote the show and also witness the many beautiful products the country can offer.
Coast Development Authority’s Director of Corporate Services Pamela Ngure, said that they have partnered with Mombasa ASK to help in making the event a success.
This year’s theme is ‘Promoting Innovation and Technology in Agriculture and Trade’.
Among the new exhibitors is Kwale International Sugar Company (KISCOL), Lamu Port South Sudan, Ethiopia Transport Corridor (Lappset) and Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) amongst others.
Kenya Railways Services (KRS) is expected to showcase the newly introduced Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train-Madaraka express.
Other exhibitors include Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Rural Electrification Authority (REA), Kenya Power Limited Company (KPLC), Ministry of Tourism, and Base Titanium Mining Company among others.
