Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr. officially launched the Agricultural Value Chain Profiling Exercise involving 503 agri-preneurs to collect data on agricultural value chain actors in Makueni.

The 503 agri-preneurs will map and register farmers, grain stockists, agro-input dealers, aggregators, processors, extension service providers, marketing centres, and transporters across the county.

Speaking during the launch at the Agricultural Training Centre (ATC) at Kwa Kathoka, in Makueni sub-county, Mutula said the exercise, which will take 25 days, will help the government link farmers to key service providers through digitalized platforms such as e-extension and other e-services.

The exercise is spearheaded by the national government in collaboration with the county governments through the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP) and seeks to undertake a comprehensive registration of all farmers across the country.

Mutula urged enumerators to be keen on capturing every farmer so that they don’t miss out on important government services.

The data to be collected will include information about each farmer’s geographical location, primary farm ownership, farming business, and crop agriculture.

The exercise will also include data on livestock, aquaculture, farm equipment and property, land and water management, and financial services.

On her part, Deputy Governor Lucy Mulili said that the exercise is timely and that the data will be helpful in informed decision-making and planning.

County Agriculture Executive Committee Member Joyce Mutua asked the young people to take advantage of the profiling activity and borrow some of the best agricultural practices which they can implement to better their lives.
