A total of 23 trainees on Friday graduated after completing a five-month training programme facilitated by Furrows in the Desert (FID) in irrigated agriculture.
The training by Furrows in the Desert (FID), an agricultural development project by the Lobur Catholic Mission was presided over by the County Chief Officer for Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Janerose Tioko.
Food security is the second among the nine priority areas of Governor Jeremiah Lomorukuai administration. Access to safe cleaning water ranks highest in the pecking order of the county government.
Speaking during the ceremony, Tioko lauded the passion and energy exhibited especially by the women who are embracing agriculture in the county.
She urged the female graduates to take the lead in sharing the acquired skills with other women and youth.
The County Chief Officer assured FID officials of the County’s commitment to collaborate with the institution, particularly in capacity building with a focus on the food security agenda.
The Deputy Director for Agriculture, Esau Emmanuel commended the positive impact of FID in promoting agricultural activities in Turkana North. He encouraged them to extend their programs to other regions.
FID Director Falgas Macque challenged the trainees to apply the acquired skills and emphasised the importance of ensuring their impact is reflected in the society.
Also present were Sub-county Administrator Ekwakai Lobeck, Sub-county Agriculture Officer John Lokuwom and Sub-county Land Reclamation Officer Eliud Ewoi.
The team also inspected ongoing works at the Kokuro Drip Irrigation Project.
