In a significant move for regional trade, the East African Community (EAC) Secretariat unveiled the EAC NTBs App, designed to eliminate Non-Tariff Barriers (NTBs) hindering cross-border business.
This mobile application, funded by the Netherlands through TradeMark Africa, integrates SMS, email, and phone reporting methods to provide a unified platform for efficient reporting, monitoring, and resolution of obstacles faced by traders.
EAC Deputy Secretary General, Ms. Annette Ssemuwemba, highlighted the app’s role in empowering traders and producers to address and resolve NTBs promptly.
The app, available in English, Swahili, and French, aims to expedite the resolution process and can be downloaded from major app stores.
The EAC, consisting of seven Partner States, has successfully resolved 89.5% of reported NTBs since 2017, emphasizing its commitment to a more efficient and equitable trade environment.
