Uganda has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with International Centre for Biosaline Agriculture (ICBA) to boost agriculture.
The memorandum of understanding was signed through the ministry of agriculture animal husbandry and fisheries (MAAIF) at the 28th annual United Nations (UN) climate meeting (COP28) in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Hon. Frank Tumwebaze the Minister for Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries signed the MOU on behalf of Uganda. The signing ceremony was witnessed by MAAIF’s permanent Secretary Maj. Gen. David Kasura-Kyomukama.
Dr. Tarifa Alzaabi, Director General of ICBA, signed on behalf of ICBA. The main purpose of the MOU is to have the two parties collaborate on soil science and in interventions that support “Agriculture for tomorrow.”
ICBA says the agreement will see them work with Uganda’s agricultural ministry on agricultural research and development, sustainable resource management, climate change adaptation and mitigation
“ICBA entered into an agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries of Uganda to cooperate in agricultural research and development, sustainable resource management, climate change adaptation and mitigation,”ICBA said.
ICBA is an international appliied agricultural research center with a vision of a world where sustainable livelihoods and food security are ensured for all who live in marginal environments.
The organisation harnesses the power of research and innovation through partnership to tackle challenges, develop solutions and create impact. Their latest partnership being that with Uganda.
The two parties were part of the just concluded COP28 that has been happening in Dubai where different states and organisations met to discuss measures to mitigate the impact of climate change.
