President William Ruto has said that the government’s fertiliser subsidy programme has improved agricultural productivity in the country by over 40 percent.

His administration also plans to double yields this year by working with farmers.

This, the Head of State said, will reduce Kenya’s food import bill to zero from Sh500 million now.

The state introduced a fertiliser subsidy initiative to shield farmers from exorbitant manure prices that shot up after supply chain disruptions due to the ongoing war between Ukraine and Russia.

President Ruto said the country has made immense progress in promoting financial inclusion and the dignity of Kenyans at the bottom of the economic pyramid.

“The Hustler Fund and the new NSSF contribution model exemplify our dedication to inclusive economic growth, financial well-being and social security for all,” he added.

The government, he added, will step up efforts geared towards the realisation of universal healthcare.
