7 Danish companies in Agriculture sector Visit Uganda

The ambassador of Denmark to Uganda H.E Signe Winding Albjerg says trade balance between Uganda and Denmark is fairly low compared to what they think should be.

She says  this calls for joint interests between the two governments especially in Agriculture sector to enhance the trade between the two parties.

She made the remarks up on welcoming A Danish Delegation of seven companies from the agriculture sector that have come to meet potential partners and farmers in Uganda for business and knowledge exchange  just a head of Uganda-European union business forum.

 

During the last 26 years the exports of Uganda to Denmark have decreased at an annualized rate of 1.16%, from $5.17M in 1995 to $3.82M in 2021.

In 2021, Denmark exported only $18.8M to Uganda. The main products exported from Denmark to Uganda were Broadcasting Equipment ($3.85M), Computers ($2.64M), and Enzymes ($2.13M).

‘’We believe that looking at the joint interests and many similarities especially in the agricultural sector, we believe we can enhance the trade balance further, our experience is that when we bring the Danish companies here to meet with Ugandan counterpart this is where we get the balance up, but the main message is when are not where we think we should be, we think we can get a lot more trade between the our countries’’. Her excellence noted.

‘’The Delegation comes with new technologies and opportunities. Some brings advanced methods of handling agricultural waste, and methods to make the chicken processing more efficient’’. She added.

Winding  is optimistic that through this visit, the delegates will get an understanding of the dynamics of agricultural sector as a business in Uganda and visit leading agricultural firms in Uganda for possible partnerships.

‘’We are extremely proud to extend our close bilateral partnership between Uganda and Denmark through this trade delegation. Building on Denmark’s past experiences with agriculture, as well as result in the agriculture sector in Uganda there is great potential tor long-term collaborations. This is particularly the case for green solutions’’. Danish ambassador to Uganda’’, she  noted.

The ambassador has also disclosed a 95 million US dollar investment cooperation programme to Uganda.

 
 

According to her the programme which runs from 2023 to 2028 is majorly focusing on climate change adaptation, climate smart agriculture, assisting in green transition as well as supporting the country in hosting refugees
