President William Ruto plans to visit Morocco in the coming weeks to discuss the establishment of a fertiliser industry in Kenya.

The head of state’s trip to the North African Kingdom was reportedly discussed by Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing’Oei and Morocco's head of diplomacy.

PS Sing'Oei travelled to Morocco on March 21 to deliver Ruto's request for talks to King Mohammed VI, an affair which has since been approved.

According to reports, the official agreement for the establishment of a fertiliser company in Kenya is set to be announced upon the visit of President Ruto to Morocco.

Reports further suggest that Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi is working with the Moroccan fertilizer giant OCP to decide on the future of this facility.

Kenya is expected to follow in the footsteps of Nigeria and Ethiopia, two African countries that have so far benefited from Moroccan expertise in the fertilizer industry.

The announcement come three weeks after Kenya established an embassy in Morocco. Ruto on March 8, announced Jessica Muthoni Gakinya as the new Kenyan ambassador to Morocco.

Similarly, the latest developments come amidst uproar over the shortage of the distribution of government fertilisers to farmers across the country.

The distribution exercise has further taken a new twist following the emergence of fake fertiliser dealers, a situation that has compelled the government to launch a major crackdown.

Nonetheless, Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi on March 29, dismissed the allegations of fake government fertiliser as propaganda.

Linturi while addressing the press, urged the farming community not to succumb to what he termed as misinformation.

"I am very impressed by the farmers for their initiatives and for making sure they are not misled by those fraudsters, who don’t want the best for Kenya," stated the CS.
