The Cascadia and Pacific grain terminals, operated by Viterra at the Port of Vancouver were recognized for work in reducing emissions and conserving energy.
The terminals received Blue Circle Awards, organized by the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, in the Energy Action category. The awards recognize Port of Vancouver operators and customers with the highest participation in its EcoAction and Energy Action programs.
The Energy Action program helps operators and port tenants conserve energy. It has helped implement more than 50 energy conservation projects across port lands to date, saving more than 15,800 megawatt hours of energy.
“This achievement is a testament to our strong focus on meeting our sustainability goals, and minimizing the environmental impact of our operations,” said Kyle Jeworski, chief executive officer, Viterra Canada. “We’re proud to be recognized with this award for the fifth year in a row, and look forward to further enhancing our commitment to sustainable operations across our asset network.”
Peter Xotta, president and CEO of the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority, said he was honored to acknowledge the leadership shown by its port community toward supporting trade in a way that supports the environment.
“Terminals and tenants, marine operators, and shipping and cruise lines are the engines that move Canada’s trade through the Port of Vancouver every day — supporting jobs and economic prosperity from coast to coast — and we are proud to celebrate the efforts they are making to ensure this vital work is done in a sustainable way,” he said.
