Nakuru County has established 16 last-mile stores to assist farmers in accessing the government’s subsidised fertiliser within the county.
The county has also partnered with Hello Tractor to assist farmers with mechanised equipment for land preparation and harvesting.
The satellite stores were established to supplement the existing National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) depots in the distribution process of fertiliser to farmers during the planting seasons in the sub-counties.
Nakuru County Deputy Governor David Kones emphasised the County Government’s commitment to linking agriculture to manufacturing through agro-processing and value addition, as well as measures to reduce post-harvest losses.
The DG noted that the Susan Kihika administration was intent on keeping its promise to empower farmers by ensuring they have easy access to subsidised fertiliser and in good time through the last-mile distribution of the subsidised fertiliser programme.
He was speaking when he visited various stands at the ongoing Nakuru National Agricultural Show.
And in line with this year’s theme, “Promoting Climate-Smart Agriculture and Trade Initiatives for Sustainable Economic Growth,” Mr. Kones reiterated the County’s commitment to advancing agricultural practices and promoting economic growth through innovation.
Through the CIDP 2023–27, the County has focused on the adoption of climate-smart agriculture, utilising technology to boost production, and promoting research, training, and modern farming methods.
ASK National Chairperson, Mrs. Annabelle Kirinya, said she was confident that showgoers will get value for money through practical solutions to current challenges in the agricultural sector and foster a resilient future.
This, she noted, will be achieved by continually providing an important focal point for sharing critical knowledge in agriculture and trade by ensuring exhibitors showcase new and emerging innovations, as well as advanced technologies within Nakuru and its environs, in line with the National Government’s agenda on agriculture and trade.
ASK, through her annual events, will continue to accentuate the importance of adopting climate-smart initiatives in agriculture and trade in line with the adopted theme.
This year’s Nakuru ASK Show, which comes to a close tomorrow, features over 115 exhibitors and 30 bazaars. Participants represent diverse sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, housing, SMEs, banking, public and private institutions, hospitality, and education.
