Frontier Agriculture, the largest grain marketing company in the United Kingdom, has acquired the assets of Fengrain Ltd. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Frontier has been Fengrain’s marketing partner since 2019, and under the new agreement will acquire Fengrain’s three flat stores and over 30 silos holding a capacity of 93,000 tonnes of combinable crop storage in Wimblington, Cambridgeshire.
“The acquisition of Fengrain is positive news and means we’re able to provide growers with more financial security and grain handling expertise across the east of England,” said Simon Christensen, grain director at Frontier. “Our ownership of the Wimblington site will also allow further investment into the facilities there and we’re very pleased to welcome the expertise of those from Fengrain into the regional Frontier team.”
Richard Means, chairman of Fengrain, added, “We have been on an interesting journey at Fengrain over the last few years and have now agreed to a deal that delivers the right result for our members and the future of the store.
“The new storage and marketing arrangement should incentivize and provide flexibility for all who use it going forward. To complete this transition with support from our members in such a short time is also credit to all involved and we are looking forward to working more collaboratively with Frontier.”
Frontier was formed in 2005 as a joint venture between Associated British Foods PLC and Cargill. The company has 46 sites across the United Kingdom and employs more than 1,100. The company operates across all aspects of arable crop production and grain marketing, and supplies seed, crop protection products and fertilizer to farmers. Frontier also provides specialist agronomy advice through its team of 160 agronomists.
