Matola Silos and Grain Terminal (STEMA) will benefit from investment in the construction and rehabilitation of grain storage silos, with a view to increasing its storage, reception and dispatch capacity.
This information was provided to ‘Notícias’ by Institute for the Management of State Holdings (IGEPE) chairperson Ana Coanai at the Maputo International Fair (FACIM) in Marracuene.
According to Ana Coanai, funds are being raised in the South African market for the construction of a new silo and the rehabilitation of other STEMA silos.
“We are in the process of mobilising financing, and we believe that by the end of this year we will be able to close the deal,” Coanai explained.
The investment will allow the Matola company to increase the amount of grain moved.
It is believed that STEMA still has enough space to meet the demand for grain imports from all national companies, by sea, rail and road.
Due to its strategic location next to the Port of Maputo, STEMA not only serves the Mozambican market but also supports the transit of grain imported by neighbouring countries, such as South Africa, Zimbabwe and Eswatini.
It serves as an exit point for the export of grain and other bulk products from Mozambique and other Southern Africa countries, in addition to importing for distribution in the national and regional markets.
The company currently has a capacity of 45,000 tons spread across 27 silos, handling products such as wheat, corn, rice, soybeans, soy flour, sunflower husks, wood chips, malt (for beer production) and other similar products.
STEMA is part of the portfolio of companies in the state business sector, which will also be present at FACIM 2024.
