Pat O’Shannassy, chief executive officer of Grain Trade Australia (GTA), has been elected president of the International Grain Trade Coalition (IGTC), which is focused on minimizing non-tariff trade barriers and ensuring the efficient movement of grains, oilseeds, pulses, and derived products.

Founded in 2000 in Geneva, Switzerland, the IGTC is an international not-for-profit association that provides commercially driven and consensus-based advocacy on behalf of its members and corporate stakeholders.

As president, O’Shannassy will work with IGTC members and other stakeholders to address key challenges facing the global grain trade, including regulatory inconsistencies and non-tariff barriers, while encouraging collaboration to strengthen supply chain resilience.

“The international grain trade is vital to feeding the world,” O’Shannassy said. “GTA’s long standing and active participation in IGTC ensures that our industry’s priorities are brought to the global stage. I am honored to serve as president and to continue advocating for risk-based, rules-based trade framework that benefit producers, exporters and consumers worldwide.”

GTA has been an active IGTC participant for over a decade, bringing Australian industry issues to international discussions and working with stakeholders to help secure equitable access to evolving global markets.
