While agriculture is Kenya’s economic backbone, some counties contribute less due to factors like arid climates, poor infrastructure, and limited investment.
Counties in arid and semi-arid regions, such as Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, and Isiolo, struggle with harsh climatic conditions, making large-scale farming difficult.
Tana River and Garissa face frequent droughts, limiting crop production and livestock farming. Nairobi, being highly urbanized, has minimal agricultural activity.
Lamu and Taita Taveta have untapped agricultural potential but face challenges like poor irrigation and market access. Turkana, despite its large landmass, lacks adequate water resources for farming.
Addressing these challenges through irrigation projects, infrastructure development, and modern farming techniques could boost agricultural productivity in these counties, enhancing food security and economic growth.
