Colorado’s farmers, bakers, brewers, millers and distillers came together March 8 at Salida SteamPlant for the Colorado Grain Summit, a place for those in the grain industry to connect, network and learn, hosted by the Colorado Grain Chain.

The event included several presentations and speakers as well as resource vendors.

Martha Sullins, one of the organizers, said she most liked being able to bring all the supply chain partners together. “It’s all about building relationships to get these high quality grains to the best markets,” she said.

Her favorite part was the “Matches in the Making" event, she said. “I got to see business transactions being made in real time.”

Audrey Paugh, co-organizer from Alma, said this was “a rare opportunity to get Colorado’s farmers, bakers, brewers, millers and distillers together.

“This event … really strengthens those community connections and creates market opportunities.”

One attendee, Bridget Gilmore of Boulder, said the event allowed her to reconnect with people she hadn’t seen in a while. “It’s a good starting point for reconnections for collaboration.”

Kathy Keyes, another attendee, with the Pagosa Baking Company, said, “I’m sort of reveling in the existence of the community … it’s so great to have something in Salida.”

Sullins said she hopes long-term business relationships form as a result of the event.
