The government has welcomed Heifer International’s $95.7 million Practice for Change (P4C) Signature Program, a five-year initiative targeting 625,000 smallholder farmers across Kenya.
Launched in Nairobi, the program seeks to transform rural livelihoods through climate-smart agriculture, improved market access, and farmer-led enterprises. Key value chains include poultry, dairy, beef, and horticulture.
Dr. Christopher Wanga, Director of Livestock Policy, said the program aligns with national development goals, including the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and Vision 2030.
“This is more than a program launch—it’s a call to action for structural transformation of the agricultural sector,” said Wanga.
Heifer International CEO Surita Sandosham said the initiative will focus on building inclusive and resilient agri-enterprises, particularly among women and youth.
She emphasized the importance of partnerships in driving sustainable impact.
The P4C program also targets Kenya’s arid and semi-arid regions, leveraging their untapped livestock potential.
The government is developing a national Livestock Master Plan to guide sustainable investments in these areas.
