Farmers in Marioshoni ward have expressed their appreciation for the effort made by the Nakuru County Government in distributing maize seeds and avocado seedlings during this planting season.

According to them, this initiative will significantly boost food production and enhance agricultural diversification, which will ultimately improve their income.

Sharon Chepkoech, a farmer at Kapkein village in Marioshoni noted that the diversification would help farmers manage risks associated with crop failure and market fluctuations, and also help them achieve a more stable and sustainable income.

The area County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education Zipporah Ngugi, who was present during the distribution exercise, affirmed to the farmers that by providing certified maize seeds and avocado seedlings to 9, 548 farmers in all agricultural wards within the County, the county is ensuring that farmers have access to high quality planting materials that could help them achieve better yields and improve their overall productivity.

She therefore urged them to take advantage of the opportunity and embrace good farming practices by working closely with the Agricultural Extension Officers.

She noted that by working closely with the officers, the farmers would receive guidance and support on best practices for irrigation, pest management, soil health among other areas of agricultural concern.

The County government is distributing a total of 40 tonnes of certified maize and over 19,000 avocado seedlings to the farmers among them the Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), youths and women.
