Shs 2801b agriculture loan to benefit 32 districts

The Governmentr yesterday presented to Parliament a Loan request of$77m ( about Shs.284b) from the African Development Bank to boost agriculture production in Uganda as an intervention in Improving household incomes. The new agricultural value chain development programme will mainly focus on the construction of irrigation schemes.

According to the project appraisal report, the project will also involve financing of increased production three selected agricultural commodities, rice, maize, beef and diary sector. The project seeks to increase farmers incomes through improvements in production and productivity enhancement, infrastructure development and market development and trade facilitation.

It will be implemented over a five year period in various districts across Uganda. Districts in which maize production will be supported through the project include Kyegegwa, Kamwenge, Masindi, Kiryandongo, Kasese, Buhweju. Mitooma, Nakaseke, Mukono, Luwero, Mityana, Kiboga, Buikwe, Wakiso, Buyende, Mayuge.
