SIDO organises national SMEs trade fair in Simiyu

THE Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO) in partnership with Simiyu Region has organised the first ever National Trade Exhibition for Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) to be held in Bariadi town,- seat of the regional government from October 23 to 28, with a view to attracting more investments in industries.

The SIDO Director General Prof Sylvester Mpanduji told reporters in Dares Salaam yesterday that the event would stimulate entrepreneurs toventure vigorously into the industrial sector and promote their products.

“Participants at the important exhibition will be exposed to newtechnologies which will help them improve their production. The eventwill also be used as a platform to promote industrialisation,” hesaid.

Eng Prof Mpanduji said that through this exhibition, Tanzanians would be encouraged to embrace the ideas being articulated by the fifth phase government under President John Magufuli, chiefly his commitment of turning Tanzania into a mid-sized industrially-based economy by 2025.

He said that apart from entrepreneurs, the event will also bring together regulatory bodies like the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS), the Tanzania Food and Drugs Authority (TDFA) and other public agencies.

“We are expecting participants from India, China and Germany. This isan important event to be conducted by SIDO at the national level. Wehave zonal exhibitions and achievements recorded from zonal eventscompelled us to organise the national event,” he explained.

The national trade exhibition will be rotating from one region to another without affecting zonal exhibitions, of which SIDO has earmarked five such exhibitions, he said.

“We are prepared to accomplish President Magufuli’s ambitious plan of industrialising Tanzania and transform people’s lives. SIDO is currently conducting capacity building training for SMEs countrywide,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to Simiyu Regional Commissioner Anthony Mtaka for pioneering the industrialisation drive in the region and being ready to host the first ever national trade exhibition.

“I take this opportunity to sensitise all neighbouring regions of Mwanza,  Geita, Kagera, Shinyanga and Mara to participate in this event and promote  products made in their regions,” he  added.
