Ugandan graduates who are currently undergoing agriculture training at Danziger Group of Companies in Israel have acquired advanced skills.
The training project is fully funded by Israel government following Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Uganda in 2016. During his visit, Netanyahu said Israel is coming back to Africa and Africa is going back to Israel thus introducing a training program to impart more agricultural knowledge to Ugandan graduates.
Students joined Danziger group through the Agro-studies Regional programme which provides a unique 11 months apprenticeship in agriculture, practicing farming using advanced techniques which can be implemented on the agricultural products we have in Uganda.
Danziger Group which was founded in 1953, is one of the world's most innovative Floriculture companies engaged in breeding, development, propagation production, marketing and sale of varieties of cut flowers. It creates extraordinary flower varieties and beautiful assortments that help customers achieve success. It's also a major floriculture producer with over 500 million cuttings of Danziger varieties planted each year in more than 60 countries.
Danziger Africa Regional Sales Manager, Mr Idan Honig said: "It's a good experience for us to have the students study at the firm and we believe it's beneficial to them as well due to the skills attained, experience and the exposure to countries rich agricultural techniques."
Ms Manige Witness one of the trainees said: "I joined Danzige through Bishop Stuart University, I feel good here, working is enjoyable and I am happy to have gained more experience in farming."
Mr Issa Agaba Mugabo, the East and Central Africa regional coordinator said that the first Ugandan students to benefit from this initiative in 2013 were from Makerere and Kyambogo universities, totaling to 41. By September 2018 close to 1000 Uganda students from several universities had already benefited from the initiative.
There are 13 education institutions currently benefitting from the program and these include: Makerere University, Kyambogo University, Bishop Stuart University, Busoga University, Bukalasa Agricultural College, Mbale University, Gulu University, Busitema University, College of Natural Sciences, Afrisa College of agriculture and environmental science among others.
