KASESE-Business is at a standstill at the Uganda-DR Congo border at Mpondwe after a bridge that connects the two countries collapsed and became unusable on December 10.
Over 30 trailers and trucks are still parked on the side of Uganda figuring out when and how they will cross their merchandise.
It is not the first time this same bridge has collapsed. It did so 10 years ago and was rebuilt.
Fauzi Kule, the Kasese district councillor representing Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council said it did not come as a surprise because the bridge was in poor shape.
He added that he is hopeful that by the end of the day, the bridge will be worked on and called upon the heavy truck drivers to use simple means like boda bodas or at least small vehicles to cross their merchandise.
One of the transit drivers said the government should come for their rescue.
Bwamable Julius the boda boda cyclist also narrated that they are heavily affected because traders are not bringing goods nearer since the bridge collapsed.
