Kanjuri irrigation water project to benefit farmer

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has launched the Kanjuri Irrigation Water Project in Magutu ward, Mathira Nyeri County.

The project is designed to  provide water for irrigation to reduce dependence on rain fed agriculture and domestic use to hundreds offarmers.

It will also supply water to institutions including Kanjuri High School, Kanjuri Primary School, Gatei Health Center, Kamunyu-ini Youth Polytechnic and P.C.E.A Muthea Parish.

Speaking while launching the project on Wednesday, Kahiga assured residents that the County Government of Nyeri is committed to supporting agriculture to increase food production and create job opportunities for economic sustainability.

He said the government is committed to support coffee and tea farmers since agriculture is the main economic activity in the area.

Kahiga said the county is known for cash crop production and asked locals to take advantage of the irrigation water to diversify and venture in to other activities such as fish farming.

The Governor said his government has been in the forefront of ensuring that the Big Four Agenda, becomes a reality for the people of Nyeri County.
