Agricultural Development and Marketing Cooperation (Admarc) says it will soon communicate to the public when it will start purchasing maize from local farmers.

Speaking in an interview Thursday, Admarc Spokesperson, Agnes Ndovi, said ADMARC is currently on an exercise of testing moisture content of the country’s main staple crop.

“ADMARC does not buy maize with high moisture content because the grain is stored and preserved for a long period.

“Moisture content in maize determines the opening of our markets. As you are aware, we had excessive rains this growing season.

“So our technical team has been conducting a test of moisture content in the grain in readiness for opening of our markets,” she said.

She said technically, moisture content determines the opening of markets,” Ndovi explained.

The current maize selling price which became effective in July, 2018 is K150 per kilogram.
