Cabinet Secretary (CS) Water and Sanitation Simon Chelugui on Monday flagged off a group of 96 students set to undergo 11-months training in Israel.

The group was sponsored by President Uhuru Kenyatta in a bid to ensure food security in the country is achieved.

The CS said the group is set to undergo intensive training on the development of water resources, wastewater treatment, recycling and reuse, irrigation with emphasis on advanced efficient water use technologies.

According to the CS, the move will enhance the fulfilment of the big four agenda specifically in ensuring there is enough food in the country.

“Food security and nutrition is one of the pillars of the Big Four agenda and water is an enabler. In fact, food and nutrition security will not be achieved unless we have sufficient water,” he added.

The group will now be the second one after the first batch was sent.

The students will study at the Arava International Centre for Agriculture Training.

Despite Israel being a dry land, it has achieved notable milestones in agriculture where through modern technology it has been able to produce surplus food for its population.
