UGANDAN President Yoweri Museveni is expected to officiate at the first Tanzania-Uganda business forum which is scheduled for September 6 to 7 at the Dar es Salaam’s Julius Nyerere International Convention Centre (JNICC), the Minister for Industries and Trade, Innocent Bashungwa has said.

According to him, the forum will bring together business leaders, policymakers and stakeholders to explore businesses and investment opportunities and cement trade relations between the two countries.

Addressing reporters yesterday in Dar es Salaam, Bashungwa said that President Museveni will grace the forum following an invitation from President John Magufuli.

According to him, President Museveni will also be accompanied  by a number of traders from Uganda.

Recently, the Ugandan High Commissioner to Tanzania Richard Kabonero confirmed that over 300 Ugandan delegates had confirmed   participation during the business forum.

“The forthcoming forum also creates platform for the traders to meet and exchange views, but also for the government to listen to the challenges impeding trade growth and see how to resolve them for mutual benefits…. “We will have to look at opportunities that exist between the two countries, challenges impeding trade and the way forward to addressing them,” Bashungwa said.

Uganda has for long time remained the major market for Tanzania’s food products and manufactured goods, so the forthcoming forum stands as a great opportunity for local traders to expand their businesses and market.

He added that the business forum will kick off with an exhibition by companies from the two countries showcasing their products and broadening their networks and value chain.

“During the forum, local traders will also learn from their fellow Ugandans on how to grab market opportunities in South Sudan,” he added.

The minister further urged traders to attend the forum for them to learn new business techniques as well as increase their networks for their businessws development.
