Kisumu County will undertake research, training and strategic resource mobilization to improve food security in the region.
 
Speaking  on  Sunday after a church service at Ombeyi, Muhoroni Sub County in Kisumu, the County governor, Anyang’ Nyong’o said the concerted effort will support farmers and expand the food basket across the County.
 
“Through research and innovations, we will introduce modern agronomic methods and resilient breeds to boost food security in line with my manifesto,” he said.
 
The  Governor  said Muhoroni is the county’s breadbasket with good climatic condition for both sugarcane and dairy farming.
 
He  said the objective was to improve household incomes and strengthen food production thereby improving living standards of the locals.
 
“This plan will revamp economic activities in the area and guarantee increased number of harvests to cushion us from hunger,” he said.
 
He called on the area leaders to join hands to develop the region and propagate politics of development for the benefit of the populace.
 
“Let us spread politics of development as opposed to insults. This will lead to sustainable development and ensure we achieve our goals as a County,” he said.
 
He added that they were ready to join development partners in improving innovation and technology in Agriculture.
