Standards is mandatory, Singida RC tells producers

This was said  over the weekend by the Singida Regional Commissioner, Dr Rehema Nchimbi, when opening awareness training for producers. The training which attracted food producers , sunflower processors and cosmetics traders was organized by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards.
 
Dr Nchimbi said the issue of  standards of goods must be adhered to the production chain in order to protect a consumer and avoid the effects that might appear due to failure in doing so.
 
“The Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS) is there for producers, they have to adhere to production requirement, the organization  is a bridge between you and market hence you have to adhere to the regulations, “she insisted.
 
She said human life depend on food hence it is more important to adhere to safety, since substandard goods costs health of consumers and most of diseases are a result of  poor food preparation so you have to be more faithful during production.
 
Dr Nchimbi said TBS is not an enemy , producers have to give it more cooperation so that to access markets of their goods in local and foreign markets.
 
She urged management of the organization to see how they can talk with entrepreneurs so as to ensure they understand what have been delivered in the trainings .
 
“This training should be a gauge in  order to understand whether they have received  it or not”, she said.
 
For his part the TBS Training and Research  Manager, Hamis Sudi, said would continue providing  education to Tanzanians the main objective is to build a collective  understanding on issues regarding standards and quality of locally manufactured goods  or imported from abroad.
 
He said the organization understands the roles played by entrepreneurs in building the Growth Domestic Product  and employment creation, hence they have sustainable process to educate the society on issues related to standards.
 
According to him, in Singida, the organization has reached around 221 entrepreneurs in Iramba, Manyoni and Singida districts.
 
The training has involved districts executives including Business Officers, Community Development and Officials from the Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO)
 
Similar awareness training will be conducted in Kondoa and Kongwa districts which is part of such initiatives in  central corridor.
