Tari–Uyole to enhance strengthening of country’s agricultural research

Tanzania Agriculural Research Institute at Uyole in Mbeya Region (TARI-Uyole) plans to strengthen agricultural production by bringing together farmers from various ares of the Soutern Highlands region to educate them on better farming and new technology in agricultural production. 
The farmers will be taught in the production of food and cash crops including maize, beans, potatoes, sweet potatoes, wheat and avocados with the aim realizing production benefits.
 
Speaking to this paper the director of TARI-Uyole Dr Tulole Bucheyeki said they decided to start sending the technology to farmers in order to enable the government attain middle economy.
 
He said in the past they used to give education and technology after harvests but discovered the system was not beneficial as many farmers were unable to grab the techniques thereof hence they decided to follow them to their farms.
 
Dr Bucheyeki said after they did some research the discovered that farmers failed to utilize the technology given because they its value was not impressed upon hence they decided to directly tell farmers that if the plant using the technology they will reap a certain amount of money.
 
He stressed that the Centre produces seeds in accordance with weather conditions and the area’s environmental conditions of the area the seeds are planted.
 
TARI-Uyole agricultural researcher   Boniface Minja said agricultural training is essential to farmers following the government’s target in attaining industrial economy that needs quality raw materials.
 
He said the technology imparted to farmers aims to increase benefits from the crops they produce so that ample food is produced for consumption and raw materials for factories.
 
Some of the farmers including Gwamka Mwaipyana said already they have started using farming techniques taught to them to increase production as traditional methods have been hindering economic wellbeing.
