Twenty-four Takaaful Cooperative Society Limited trainers from Lilongwe and Kasungu have been equipped with agribusiness knowledge and skills aimed to assist government to create one million jobs in the country.

Takaaful in partnership with Feed the Future conducted a two-day training of the trainers from 25 to 26 August, 2020 in Lilongwe.

In an interview, Chairperson for the organization, Adil Chilungo said the training has equipped trainers who will be deployed to their respective Cooperatives and groups to impart them with the skills obtained.

“After the training, Feed the Future will provide start up drip irrigation kits and soya milk making machines to help them across the central and southern parts of Malawi,” Chilungo said.

He added that the exercise will improve their lives and enable them to employ other people in their communities.

“For example, instead of selling raw soya beans at K400 per kilogram, the members will now go back with more than K4000 for the same kilogram of soya after value adding through milk production,” he assured.

Resilient Coordinator for Feed the Future, Afshan Omar said the training has been an eye opener and Takaaful members stand to benefit immensely.

“Takaaful membership is open to all Malawians across all religions and tribal divides at as little as K350 per individual with funeral benefits ranging from K50,000 to K100,000 per member upon one’s death,” she said.

She highlighted that trainees from Lilongwe and Kasungu will in turn be deployed to the other districts where Takaaful operates including Mchinii, Dowa, Ntcheu, Mangochi, Zomba, Chiradzulu, and Chikhwawa.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Lucy Salimu promised to use the agribusiness skills and knowledge learned from the training and impart the same to others so that they can help the government to create one million jobs by establishing small scale businesses.
